"Blowing Kisses"

Blowing Kisses is a deeply personal exploration of love, luck, memory, and the traditions we carry with us. A striking red cardinal rests delicately on the hand of a Black woman, adorned with a bold ruby ring, against a rich monochromatic red backdrop.

The inspiration behind the piece comes from a childhood memory. My great uncle once told me that whenever I saw a red bird, I should blow it a kiss for good luck. That simple tradition stayed with me, transforming the cardinal into more than just a bird—it became a symbol of good fortune, remembrance, and the wisdom passed down through family.

The ruby ring and crimson palette extend that symbolism, representing value, love, passion, and something precious enough to hold onto. Blowing Kisses captures the quiet beauty of carrying a piece of childhood into adulthood—a reminder that sometimes the smallest traditions become the ones that stay with us forever.
