Lupercalia History:

Our building was constructed in 1852. The arches to the Carriage House (now an Art Showroom) are still visible. The 50ft tunnel is easily accessed and serves as our Skinny Gallery. It showcases fabulous, award winning black and white photography. The old simple small working class Speakeasy (one of eight known by historians in Mobile during Prohibition) was active around 1917, because Alabama went "dry" seven years before. Today, the floors are still colonial red but the walls are full of Gulf Coast Art. The lot underneath us was purchased from the Spanish Duval Family Estate in 1851. Lying between the Cathedral of the Emaculate Conception and the old Spanish cemetary, on wooden and cobblestone streets named after Saints and earthly French Royalty, a shirt factory,  general store, apartments, and restaurants have graced these walls for 174 years.

Lupercalia embodies deep historical roots, hosts over 800 unique original art works and of course, Mobilian mischief. Stop in today to experience Mobile's underground history, get inspired and take home a piece of the city!
