Evan Duffy Collection

Though always making something, Evan Duffy never fancied himself an “artist.” In fact, he still cringes a little when someone refers to him as such. No, he always thought of himself just a simple maker. Whether writing a short story, interviewing a local sports legend for a feature article, brewing up the perfect pot of gumbo (slow brown roux and seafood stock, are the keys, mind you), or crafting furniture
from found items for family members, Evan was always on the hunt for the next making adventure.

Then he met the love of his life, an artist, who inspired him to create along with her. From there, it’s been a downhill coast into the “A” word: Artist. “I’ve always loved working with wood, grew up with a woodworking neighbor who had a full shop I
could learn in. He was kind teacher, and that stoked my life-long love affair with shaping natural materials.” For years, it was all about furniture and shillelagh walking canes. But after seeing the electrifying process of fractal burning in action, he was hooked. “There’s just something free about releasing your will to the whim of the wood and the current, letting things go where they may and figuring it all out later.”

He still bristles at the label of “artist,” as he doesn’t think what he does elevates him to that lofty title. “I’m just a dude who loves wood and likes burning stuff with electricity. It’s all about pushing boundaries…let’s see where it goes.”
